You might note that neither boat is using shrouds ~ a class option.
We are pleased to introduce a new boat to North America. Micro Magic has met rave reviews in Europe and is coming ashore in the UK in big numbers. So we are next. At only 21" long, you would not think this boat would offer very much - wrong! Micro Magic
Remarkable at many levels
The Mark I (Mk1) version of Micro Magic has been around a few years. But just recently, Graupner, the German manufacturer, switched production to the Mk2. The hull/deck did not change, and the size of the rig did not change, but there were other interesting changes to produce a boat that would race better. You will note in some of the pictures that the gooseneck/vang/kicker arrangement changed noticeably. And if you get two versions together in the same picture showing the underwater features you will also notice that they changed the ballast shape, plus the shape of the keel fin and rudder. Oddly enough the rule allows for mix and match, and a good number of sailors are trying out different combinations ~ like the Mk1 keel fin with the MK2 ballast. These "this or that" mixing of parts is legal, but not any other modification to major moldings. The class racing rule is available on this website, and you will notice that this boat is often called a one-design. However in the true sense of the term, this is not a one-design. Yes, you must use manufactured parts, but you may use third party sails. The rules state a maximum dimension for sails but you can use any smaller size you wish. We already have plans for four rigs, A (standard), B, C, and D going down in size. In the UK they often sail in a lot of wind so they have developed some tiny sails to get this boat to sail in winds over 40 knots!!! ![]() Micro Magic really hangs on when it blows. Here one is jumpin' through the chop, on her way to the weather mark.
We know that Micro Magic is more expensive per inch that other small boats, especially the Nirvana, but there is something about this boat that has attracted a huge following. They have had numerous high level regattas in Europe attracting boats from 5 or 6 countries, with over 50 boats racing. So something is special here. Micro Magic comes as a kit even though we will build it for you. So for those that like building, this is a great project. You will enjoy the attention to detail and quality for all the parts included - something you would expect from a German factory. Who should buy Micro Magic? Anyone will enjoy the kit and sailing this boat, but those most attracted to this boat are those that like to tinker some. Yes, the one-design rule restricts major changes, but there is a lot of fun in fiddling with sails, rigging, and in this case, switching fins and ballasts. Again, like with most closely regulated boats, practicing is the answer to standing on the top podium, since all the tweeks in the world won't make you a winner. Why buy Micro Magic from us? We work full time in support of thousands of model sailboat owners. We choose boats we sell carefully so we can give you prompt, knowledgeable, and personal support. We also sail and race what we sell so we know them inside out, and will answer your questions via email or by phone. We stock parts too, something important with imported boats. And, you will see us at the regattas havin' fun right along with the rest of you. You just can't get that from any other company. ![]() Four in the back seat. These boats are so compact you can stick 'em in whole. Note the cradles to the right that come standard. In a van or SUV, you can actually stack in a bunch IN the cradles.
Last word - This is a fun little boat that you can stick in the back of your car (a whole fleet!), and yet when it gets on the water it sails extremely well giving you the best of both worlds. Get yourself a Micro Magic today, and enjoy a wonderful product.
